Moffat is pleased to announce the recent appointment of George Colambaris as its first Australian company ambassador.

It made sense to choose Colambaris for such a role as Australian’s are very familiar with his work.

This is particularly thanks to his role on Channel Ten’s popular reality television show Mastechef, where he is one of the three judges.

His career began at the Hotel Sofitel in Melbourne under Raymond Capaldi, and it is here where Colambaris completed his apprenticeship.

Following this he joined forces with Capaldi and the Sofitel’s executive sous chef Gary Mehigan to open Fenix, where he worked for two years.

Throughout his career Colambaris has won a number of prestigious industry awards.

These include the Young Chef of the Year and Best New Restaurant for Fennix, which also received two chef’s hats in the The Age Good Food Guide.

In 2004, the Global Food and Wine Magazine voted Colambarais as one of the Top 40 chefs of influence in the world.

Colambaris opened The Press Club in 2006, which The Good Food Guide awarded the Best New Restaurant and Colambaris Chef of the Year in 2008.

Colambaris also owns Melbourne restaurants Maha Bar and Grill and Hellenic Republic, and has opened Belvedere, a restaurant in a hotel on the Greek island of Mykonos.

He has also recently opened Mamababa, a restaurant inspired by all things pasta in South Yarra, Melbourne.

Calombaris has published two cookbooks aptly entitled The Press Club and Hellenic Republic: Greek Cooking from The Hellenic Heart.
