2011 HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition heat three results

The third heat of the 2011 HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition, Australia's largest apprentice chef competition, was completed on Tuesday 7th June at the Western Sydney Institute of TAFE - Nepean College, Kingswood Campus.

23 apprentice chefs competed in the heat, including an ABSA student (school based apprentice), overseen by judges from Industry, TAFE NSW and HTN Hospitality Employment Solutions .

Partners and events students put on other events along side the action of the 2011 HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition, including a barista demonstration by Hennessy Coffee, a cup cake decorating demonstration by students, a sushi class, and tours of the facilities.

The results of the third heat of the HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition are as follows:

1st Year
1st place: Natalie Fell - ASBA - Outback Steakhouse
2nd place: Rodrick Parbery - Grey Gums Bistro
3rd place: Peter Bui - St Johns Park Bowling Club
Merit: Mennie Tuaati - Campsie RSL

2nd Year
1st place: Joshua De Luca - Ormeggio at the Spit
2nd place: Ellyn Griffin - Sebel Resort and Spa
3rd place: Blake O'Keeffe - The Boathouse Waterfront
Merit: Courtney Robb - Meat and Wine Co

3rd Year
1st place: Rebecca Mutch - Rydges Parramatta
2nd place: Chelsea Ratcliffe - Gotties Italian
3rd place: Melissa Graham - Twin Creeks Golf Club
Merit: Eko Budi Riyanto - Rydges Cronulla

The top three in each year received received prizes on the day that included industry items and vouchers from Fraser and Hughes.

The first placed apprentice chefs were invited to compete in the Grand Final to be held in October where each first place will receive $2,500.

Earlier in the competition HTN Hospitality Employment Solutions announced the addition of two major prizes for HTN Apprentices - a Piaggio Scooter thanks to Profiline Cookware and a Cruise for two; taking the competition prize pool to around $30,000.

HTN Hospitality Employment Solutions expect around 350 apprentice chefs to compete across the entire competition. The dates of the heats are as follows:

  • 7th June - Kingswood
  • 14th June - Coffs Harbour
  • 21st June - Hamilton
  • 22nd June - Kurri Kurri
  • 28th June - Ryde
  • 30th June - Canberra
  • 5th July - Ourimbah
  • 12th July - Baulkham Hills
  • 28th July - Port Macquarie
  • 2nd August - Melbourne
  • 10th August - Bega
The 2011 HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition grand final is still to be announced.
