The sixth heat of the 2011 HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition organised by HTN Hospitality Employment Solutions took place on 22nd June at the Hunter Institute of TAFE - Kurri Kurri Campus (Hunter Valley Hotel Academy).
The 2011 HTN Apprentice Chef Culinary Competition is being held at 13 different locations leading up to the grand final in October.
Fourteen apprentice chefs competed in the Kurri Kurri event overseen by judges from Industry, TAFE NSW and HTN Hospitality Employment Solutions.
The prizes on the day included industry items and vouchers from Fraser and Hughes for the top three in each year of study. The first placed apprentice chefs were invited to compete in the Grand Final to be held in October where each first place will receive $2,500.
Earlier in the competition HTN announced the addition of two major prizes for HTN Apprentices including a Piaggio Scooter thanks to Profiline Cookware and a cruise for two taking the competition prize pool to around $30,000.

1st place: Billy Eitz, Peppers Anchorage
1st place: Ellie Stevens, Silo Restaurant and Lounge
HTN expects around 350 apprentice chefs to compete across the entire competition. Heat competitions have already been held in Wollongong, Wentworth Falls, Kingswood, Coffs Harbour and Hamilton.
The event will also be conducted in Ryde, Canberra, Ourimbah, Baulkham Hills, Port Macquarie, Melbourne and Bega.
